Actonians Cricket Club Womens 1st XI v Finchley CC Ladies on Sun 20 Jun 2021 at 1.30pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won by 3

Match report It was a rainy Sunday morning, and with a wicket full of divets we were worried if we were even going to get a game. But as always, Captain Fantastic comes through and with a quick call to the oppo and a roll of the wicket with help from Aoife and we were ready to go. Skip managed to not lose the toss and we were in to field on what we were hoping would be a very lively wicket, and looking to repeat our performance from last week and bowl them out for 55.

Bowler number 1 gets the game off to a cracking start from us, with a stunning caught and bowled and setting the tone for the rest of the game, as we all know the saying "catches win matches". Eva from the other end was also on fire, and their opening spell was a beauty, and I could see the repeat of last week happening. However, it just wasn’t our day in the field and the ball kept popping up but never seemed to find our hands, with a "dropped" catch from probably everyone in the team other than our wonderful youth of Rio a who can't seem to put a foot wrong. Speaking of Riya comes on to bowl and not only really tightens up the run rate but also manages to get the key wicket of their opener who has been hitting us around a bit with a catch from Gio at mid-on.

Despite Rio's wicket and Aish bowling some gorgeous balls, Gunnersbury are about 120 off 25 overs and we are looking at potentially needing to chase 250. However, with some wise words from Skip and Keely and a kick up the back side to pick it up in the field we remebered how to play cricket and the wickets started to tumble. Katie managed to get a sneaky run out to get out their set batter, Aish, Riya and Keely also picked up wickets and Aoife got her name in the score book with a quick run out. Overall the wickets were shared round the team but notable figures were: Riya - 8 overs, 3 maidens, 24 runs for 2 (Although if we managed to get a wicket keeper who could actually catch she would have had a fifer), Eva - 8 overs, 3 maidens, 16 runs, no wickets for her but unsure how she didn't manage to get one in the death, and rumour has it she emptied her pockets when she got back to Bath and their tail were still in there. Lastly, can't forget Emily's quick and athletic stumping which was very unjustly not given by the umpire - but couldn't not give that a shout out. The innings ended on 157 ( 40 Overs, 8 Wickets ), with Actonian's feeling quietly confident they could chase it down but also well aware of how much we love a collapse.

Katie and Mazza stride out to bat and Katie soon starts finding the middle and it is clear she is going to put on a show for the in-laws. Maz struggles to find the middle slightly but, these two put on a lovely opening partnership of 96 before our 75 yr old decides to leave a straight one and returns to the balcony for 27. With a nearly 100 opening partnership it is time to take control of the game and put the game to bed, but our resident Irish had different ideas and looking for wisdom in age gets bowled first ball to the exact same ball Mazza just got out too. Keely comes in next and also decides that the chat on the balcony is TOO good, that instead she would rather dink one up to cover and come back enjoy the fun for 2 runs. It is currently 110-3 and a famous Actonians batting collapse is looking possible, but no need to fear when Eva is in at 5, to come in and steady the innings. The rest of the game was never in doubt with us seeing the runs off in 33 overs. Katie managed to score an incredible 57 before being bowled - however I will note that Rambo said she could have been out LBW if the Oppo appealed. Eva finished on 27* and Charlie on 5*, with Aish coming on in-between and running a 2 at Usain bolt pace before being bowled for 5.

Twas a great game all round and the man of the match was shared between Eva and Skip for their contributions with bat and ball in Eva's case and fielding for Katie. We go into this weekend top of the league 1 point above North London, hoping to keep our unbeaten record in tact against Harrow Saint Mary’s
