Actonians Cricket Club Womens 2nd XI v Harrow St Mary's Ladies on Sun 19 Jun 2022 at 2pm
Actonians Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets

Match report Hopes were high as Actonian Ladies faced off against Harrow St Mary’s Ladies. Whilst the record against this opposition was not the best, home advantage and the usually tremendous support from the team made for an encouraging setting to get the victory.

A good start, with the captain Emily winning the toss and choosing to bat on what appeared a good surface. The opening partnership, however, was broken quickly - with only 3 on the board. The skipper took control thereafter, showcasing a blistering boundary barrage , registering no less than 16 boundaries. It must be said, the fielding wasn’t the best - with chances going amiss, but full credit to the captain for capitalising on the oppositions mistakes. Wickets fell regularly throughout the innings, with a gutsy cameo from Sienna down the order helping Actonians get to a respectable 121/6 after 20 overs.

A few friendly words from Selma helped maintained the pressure on the batters. Comments such as ‘we are coming for you’, ‘we are not staying quiet’ and ‘watch Harrow go stone cold when we hit a boundary’. 📢

Over to the bowlers then, Gina, Arabella, Katy, Gio and Ivanna to try and defend the total. Through disciplined lines, the scoring rate was slowed - leading to riskier running from the batters. Elaine took full advantage, scooping the ball from leg side and firing in a direct throw to shatter the stumps. From there, HSM settled into the flow, keeping the required rate in checks and although wickets fell at regular intervals, including a maiden catch for Marie, this had all the feeling of a tight game. A magnificent caught and bowled by Katy, followed by a 2nd wicket in as many balls kept Actonians in the hutch, but things were getting tight. Under the pressure, Gio stepped to the crease, earning another much needed wicket! And then came the final over, with only a handful of runs required - could Actonians pull of a famous victory? 😬

In the end, It wasn’t to be - with HSM hitting the winning runs from the the last ball. A close encounter, but these are the fine margins of the game we love. A magnificent effort from the ladies throughout the game, with many positives to take forward.

Women of the match was shared by Marie for her magnificent catch to keep us in the game and Siena for some world class fielding and batting🏆
