Actonians Cricket Club 5th XI v Ealing Trailfinders IV on Sat 13 May 2023 at 12.30pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report Press Officer Steve Smith

After last week's away game at North Acton Playing field was called off due to rain. The 5s started their league home campaign at North Acton playing fields with a home game against Ealing Trailfinders.

Andrew Maben won the toss and proved he wasn't born yesterday by electing to field.

Malhotra and debutant Dominic Horne shared the new ball and the latter struck early on his league debut giving Actonians their first league wicket of the season.

Scoring was tough and Trailfinders managed to get a score of 109 all out which on a damp pitch and long grass seemed about par.

Wickets were shared with 3 for Smith, 2 for Malhotra, Anneq and Sujjjjjjjjjj!

After tea (is it tea if everyone does their own thing?) and wondering why Lewis was having an ice cream in this weather, Actonians didn't start very well. Hussain, Hurst and Malik departed early to leave us at 15/3. A score which we remained on for 42 balls at one stage!

Maben and Davies steadied the ship with a long patient partnership after some top quality digging in. Which the people of Yorkshire have been talking about more then Sheffield Wednesday amazing come back on Thursday night.

With the required run rate reaching the dizzy heights of 4. Maben and Davis took the game to Trailfinders by running risky singles. Words here do not do this justice as anyone who saw the outfield will tell you how very tough it was to score.

Davies departed but Sujjjjjjjjjjjjjj! Helped to keep the run rate going before departing.

Aneeq who had said he would win the game in 10 overs prior to a ball being bowled came to the crease and was bowled for 0 two balls later! Please never change Aneeq!

Lewis Coupe and Captain Maben took the team home in front of a rapturous home crowd (some of our local players joined us) and a world wide audience (Nathan Mehaffy showed the game on Facebook live).

The match was won with our first boundary of the season from captain and man of the match Andrew Maben.
