Brondesbury IV v Actonians Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 30 May 2009 at 1-30pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
The Old Actonians 3rd XI continued their good run of form this season as they cruised to a 7 wicket win against Brondesbury 4ths to notch their 3rd consecutive win and put them in a good position to push for promotion this season.
Having won the toss for the 4th time in a row, Tom “Happy” Gilmour inserted the opposition on what looked to be a decent, yet moss friendly, surface. And straightaway the decision to insert had reaped its benefits as opening bowler Shaun Qamar took a wicket in the first over to start what would eventually be a steady fall of wickets. A decent 2nd wicket stand of 30 odd looked to get Brondesbury back in with a shout before Paul Maddock and Captain Happy came to the party and dismantled the top order with some good partnership bowling aided by some erratic stroke-play. One particular highlight was a sharp run out from Shaun who followed a one handed pick-up at 3rd man with a direct hit at the striker’s end (sources say he was aiming for the bowler’s end that is still yet to be confirmed...). Buoyed by that debatably fortuitous run-out, Old As turned the screw as Dominic Wallace was brought on to finished off the innings with a calculated 4 for 22.
The reply got off to a shaky start as opener Jules Rendell was sent back to the hutched (patio) without scoring after being felled by a half-tracker which failed to get above ankle height. But from then on it was the Cameron Lovell show as he took apart the Brondesbury bowling attack with some classy strokes and some Hayden-esque blows to help himself to 76no with Nick Herne (21), Justin Peters (2) and Marcus Maben (8 no) all pitching in with, what turned out to be, a very convincing win.
