Actonians Cricket Club Womens 1st XI v North London Ladies on Sun 07 May 2023 at 1.30pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won 8 wickets

Match report After a week of rain, and a lack of cricket weather – Sunday produced an absolute blinder. The sun was out in full force for our first game of the season at the mighty home ground against North London Cricket Club.

After much too-ing and fro-ing, we expertly put out the boundary rope with no problems whatsoever (if you were there, just nod and agree please), whilst stand in captain GRETTTT put in a solid shift with the toss. Somehow managing to flip the coin onto its side, she still won and put Actonian’s into field first!

Freshly washed red tops donned, it was time to get out for a bowl! Riya Patadia and Emma O’Connor opened the innings, keeping things nice and economical – but it was Antonia Welch who broke the opening partnership. We then saw a Toni bowling masterclass as she took another 3 wickets – finishing her spell a fantastic 4-27.

Other fielding contributions saw GMac take a wicket, and a catch – which initially looked like it was on for collision course – but you can’t see that in the score card! Sarah finished 2-1-7, sending the left-handed batter quickly back to the club house after stating “I love bowling to left handers” and cleaning her off stump first ball. Riya’s second spell brought her a wicket from a catch taken by Emma, from who’s reaction you would have thought she had won the lottery (cricket is always the real winner) – Riya finished her spell 1/23.

North London CC finished 105/7 from their 20 overs, and Eva Solt and Aoife Livingston were ready and raring to chase them down.

We saw the second ball of the innings get dispatched for 4 by Aoife, this set the tone for the rest of the innings. Aoife and Eva started to build a steady innings, with lots of “cooll runningggss” between the wickets, and boundaries to add a little bit of spice, to the mix.

Aoife was dismissed in the fourth over, finishing 13 (12), which saw “it’s a friendly” Antonia Welch join Eva at the crease. The two continued in the steady fashion seen at the start, with Eva quickly looking like she was going to secure a comfortable 50. The 12th over saw our resident wicket taker, Toni, retire due to injury… got to save the back!

Charlie Voden’s eyes lit up as she and her beloved bat took to the crease to cause some chaos. We saw some lovely cover drives, some sweeps and boundaries to see out the innings, with Eva and Charlie chasing down the remaining runs by over 16. Charlie finished 18 (14), with Eva finishing 50 up first game of the season (from 55).

Overall, a very successful first game back for the A’s. A lovely day, good chat, and great performances all round. Cricket is the winner.
