Weekend update - 28th May - Close matches in vogue

30 May 2012

We all know cricket's more fun when matches are close, but our members appear to be taking this idea to extremes as Old A's have managed to concoct two one-run victories and a tie in just seven days...

The weekend came to a dramatic head on Sunday afternoon as the Ladies took on Hampstead in a 20/20 cup match, backed by a buoyant crowd including a few 1st and 2nd teamers. Marilyn Smith clipped a four off her legs on the last ball of the Old A's innings to tie the scores on 125 each... If it were judged on wickets lost, Old A's would have been clear winners, but instead a bowl-off was chosen and we lost in a heartbreaking fashion - but a top effort all round.

On Saturday it was the 4th team that, inspired by the previous weekend's 1-run cup victory over Enfield, took 10 points by the narrowest of margins against Bessborough. Captain Vish brought himself back on and promptly knocked over the oppo's no 11 to clinch the win. The only thing more exciting than that is the match report by the captain himself.

Elsewhere, the 2s only managed a losing draw against Perivale Phonecians despite a classy 62 from Aaron Swan. Another 50 for Scott Ensom wasn't enough to stop the 1s losing at Crouch End, while the 3s couldn't match Bessborough's total even though Hrishi Puranik's surprise outing with the ball saw him nab five wickets.

Thanks again to Craig Nel, Wise Networks and Trent Conwell for their hard work in securing a new cricket shirt deal for us - a reminder that a free shirt is included as part of your membership fee, and that Clifford needs to know your shirt size ASAP (see link for details).

Also, there will be a QUIZ NIGHT on 9th June, organised by the 2nd Xi, when matches are over. Save the date - more details to come.

Finally - the boring part - membership subs are due 31st May. That's NOW!
