Weekend update - 06/06/2012

Not the best of weekends...BUT

We’ll start on a positive: the 3rd team picked up their first point of the season against Indian Gymkhana on Saturday with a much improved display thanks in no small part to some promising performances from several colts on debut. Well done too to the two Andrews, Spinks and Maben, for a useful partnership in the middle order.

Elsewhere, it was unfortunately not the best of days for Old A’s. There were top-class displays from two young players —
James Essex in the 1s and Hrishi Puranik in the 2s — but they were not enough to stop it both teams losing against MTSSC. The 4s also failed to pick up any points against Wembley.

However, there’s always another Saturday, weather permitting, and after the rain spoilt our attempts at preparation last night there will be an additional practice session on Thursday evening from 6pm for those who wish to attend.

Of course, there’s also always Saturday evening — and this weekend’s promises to be full of excitement as the 2nd Xi host a quiz night (see below). £10 a head gets you quiz entry, a curry dinner, and extra chances to win with the heads/tails and tiebreaker rounds.

Let’s hope we’re celebrating four victories by then, and can build up some momentum for the cup match against Brentham, which has now been postponed by seven days to the 17th June.
