Actonians Cricket Club 3rd XI v Indian Gymkhana 3 on Sat 12 Jul 2014 at 1.00pm
Match was Drawn 4 Points

Match report Indian Gymkhana won the toss and put us in to bat. A fine perfomance and a 53 run partnership from Danny Guest and Dominic Wallace meant that the shine was gone and the oppositions heads were already dropping in the 17th over when the first wicket fell. After a short but exciting display from Owen Brooks, Omar Tirmazi took to the crease and continued the fine work with Danny putting on a further 40 runs Danny passing the 50 mark in the process. An classic off spin delivery finally saw the end of Danny and Sameer joined the attack. The pace begin to quicken now and some quick fire boundaries from Sameer meant that both batsmen were fast approaching 50. Sameer the first to reach the 50 mark with an enormous six over mid on. The last few overs saw a thoroughly demoralised Gymkhana run around the field chasing the red and also a fine cameo from Matt Gurking smashing 2 sixes in quick succession. Old A's ended up on 233 for 5 and Gymkhana looked ready for home.

After a couble of slices of hastily ordered Pizza Old A's took to the field.
Opening up, Keir Smith and Pirideepan Sivanthan decided that they were keen on an early finish and took three wickets in the first 3 overs of the game with catching assistance from Hitesh, Owen and Andy Spinks. This put Gymkhana into a tricky possition of six for three. Perhaps their only batsman then came to the crease and managed to steady the ship a little with a well played innings. Not for long however as some pacey bowling from both Nathan Mahaffey and Matt Gurkin had the middle order on the back foot. It has to be said both bowlers were unlucky to take a few more wickets but their hard work was rewarded with a wicket a piece. Into the fray comes Danny Guest.... Wether the 60 runs he scored done something to Danny or if it was just a bid to assert himeself as a true alrounder we may never know but Danny had Gymkhana in all sorts of trouble for the short while he was on and quickly picked up two wickets. For a reason unknown to me as I look back at this score card the captain decided to take Danny off after just four overs. Piri's return followed soon by Keir Smith's return lead to another wicket falling followed by some decidedly nervracking final overs for Gymkhanna. In the end though we couldnt get the final wickets and a very well earned winning draw was our prize.
Man of the Match clearly Danny Guest with his well crafted 60 and his Boparaesk bowling spell.
Exceptional performances in the field all round. 8 catches! Some very close run outs and an extremely close stumping. No LBW's this week. Perhaps next week...
