Actonians Cricket Club 3rd XI v Harrow Town 3 on Sat 28 May 2016 at 12.30pm
Match was Drawn Winning Draw

Match report For the 2nd week running the skipper proved he is a useless tosser as Harrow Town elected to field first at Boddington Gardens. That said we had a very strong looking batting line up and were confident of posting a challenging total on the now "traditional" flat tracks served up here.

Maben Senior was joined this week by the returning Richard Parker at the top of the order and they appeared comfortable against the opening bowlers who struggled to bowl consistently. It was therefore a bit of a shock when Parker got bowled and Andrew Jones came in to steady the ship. These 2 took the score to 93 in the 28th over when Jones was run out. Progress had been steady but at least we had plenty of wickets in hand to have a biff in the final 20 overs. Maben was eventually out for a well played 67 and Farmer H Patel came out to join Josh. H played a great little knock mowing his way very effectively to a brisk 27 that added impetus to the innings. Last week's hero Tewhato blobbed but the lower order kept playing positively until the end of the 50th over. 239 was a decent total although the oppo have been scoring well so far this season.

Shaun and Nathan took the new nut and both bowled tight lines to ensure Harrow did not get off to a flier. They were also backed up by some excellent fielding (unlikely an Old As 3s side have put out a better fielding side I would suggest). It took us to the 12th over to get the breakthrough though when Tewhato picked up a threw down the stumps at the strikers end when their opener was thinking it was an easy single. Josh then repeated the trick a few overs later to leave Harrow 40 for 2 in the 17th. Vaughan then came steaming down the hill an induced a nick to the keeper and when Josh ran out their opener we were sniffing a victory at 86 for 4 in the 29th. However their gun batsman was at the crease looking ominous. However Nathan brought Parker on to bowl his left arm, all arms, all legs, seam. It could have done the trick when he induced an edge off the shoulder of Jadunath's bat only for Maben to shell the chance at slip.

Harrow Town sensed an opportunity for a winning draw (target 201) as they now had 2 set batsmen who could score freely. Thankfully Tewhato got Jadunath and when the returning Qamar got the other batsmen we knew the winning draw was guaranteed. In fact we gave ourselves a chance of victory with Shabeel reducing them to 166 for 8 with 3 overs to go. However they blocked out the remaining overs without undue alarm.

So another 4 points for the 3s who have been unbeaten since the opening day loss to Winchmore Hill. We need to start picking up wins though if we want to enter the title race. That said it's all been good fun so far with all games played in a good spirit. Onwards and beerwards to Enfield next week.
