Actonians Cricket Club 3rd XI v Harrow 3 on Sat 10 Jun 2017 at 12.30pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won By 4 wickets
Match report
After last weeks impressive win at Osterley we welcomed Harrow to Boddingtons needing another victory to avoid slipping behind the pace setters in the league. The wicket looked up to the usual Boddingtons standard (not great!) so Nathan wisely invited them to bat on winning the toss.
Kier and Piri took the new ball as per usual and after a circumspect start, their number 2 decided to flay his willow. It was a fairly brief but eventful innings with 3 boundaries, a run out not given and a dropped catch at slip all included. However he chanced his arm once too often and a swat to cow off Piri was well taken by Shabeel. It all went a bit quiet after that as we dried up the runs but at 42 for 1 after 14 overs it wasn't a bad start. However Things took a turn for the worse for Harrow soon after as the skipper ran through their top order with 4 wickets. Add in a TP wicket and a run out and they were 8 down before the 100 mark. Nathan took two "wickets" with no balls to prevent the 5 for and eventually we bowled them out for 128. A bit more than they should have got but we had given ourselves 45 overs to get them.
After feasting on a fine tea from the skip we sent out Andrew with Parker with the latter looking to improve his 3rd team average of about 6!! We saw an eventful 1st over which saw the first ball sail over first slip for 5 no balls. Their opening bowler struggled to find the cut strip until the final ball of the over which was full and kept low and clattered into Andrew's off stump. 11 for 1 at the end of the over. Chas came in at 3 and looked in good touch as we made quick progress towards the target. He and Rich took the score to 50 and looking serene enough when 3 quick wickets seemingly gave the oppo a bit of hope. Chas took a stroll down the wicket and got stumped, Parker unerringly picked out the man on the deep mid wicket boundary, and last weeks hero Asif was run out after an optimistic call from Walter. 57 for 4 and a dejeuner de la chien was on the cards!!
Walter and Shabeel then settled things down put away any bad balls presented to them by their young bowlers. Shabeel and TP perished before the target was reached but Walter's assured 41 not out ensured we completed our 2nd consecutive win.
All in all not a game that will live in the memory but 10 good points nonetheless. Extras top scored for them and against stronger oppo our propensity to bowl wides and no balls could be costly. Too many wickets given away in a complacent run chase and room for improvement in the catching department!
On a lighter note it was good to see Parker back and he did enough to get Schlong de la Jour too. He pretty much threw one over the boundary when attempting to prevent a four and he tried to claim the scratches on his chest were down to some hot chick he had to drag himself from to play for us...... It's got to be up there with Piri's post holiday claim of cock blocking last year!!
