Harrow 4 v Actonians Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 26 Jun 2021 at 12.00pm
Actonians Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets
Match report
The 4s found themselves at Harrow this week to take on a team clearly in the promotion hunt. Unfortunately for us Roheet has not yet been caught on a security camera snogging his PA so we had to make do with his captaincy! He lost the toss and we were asked to bat first on what looked like a pretty decent strip (their 1st team wicket looked pretty good too but that game finished before ours with scores of 83 and 47!). Billy and Bobby played watchfully against some tight new ball bowling but Billy lost a bit of patience and his wicket when he tried to pull one that wasn’t quite there for the biff to cow. Bobby followed soon after as we found ourselves 22 for 2. Lord Whear and Saoirse then tried to rebuild but when both were out the swashbuckling pair of MS Jonesy and myself dug in. Their young off spinner was getting plenty of turn, albeit at a slow pace, but as the pitch was too paced, we found him hard to get away. However at 90 for 4 with plenty of overs left we were in decent shape. Unfortunately we both got out on that score and add in a Badger golden duck, we were soon 90 for 7! Thankfully the returning Wokey Will (whose shorts this week scored an 8 out of 10 on the oooogh scale) looked in good touch and added some respectability to the score. He did run out poor Raj though who has experienced this mode of dismissal in consecutive weeks! Debutant Mitesh was also run out by a direct hit and the skipper wasn’t able to support Will for long. As he himself pointed out he does get bowled out a lot considering his whole game is based on the block! In fact the only time the ball gets off the square is when leg byes occur!
119 was below par even on a fairly slow pitch but credit to their bowlers (all 6 of them) who were all pretty accurate and we were miserly with their pie offerings. Roheet opened up with Raj and while the latter bowled without much luck, the skipper at the other end picked up 3 to leave Harrow 21 for 3. The wickets included a good catch standing up the stumps by Jonesy and a fine diving effort at cover by Saoirse. Their number 4 then biffed a few boundaries to take the game from us. He had a particular penchant for Badger as it turned out as his two overs went for 24. Add in a golden duck and a dropped catch it was not a great day Badger fans. However we know after a few nocturnal outings during the week, he will no doubt come roaring back.
Mitesh did eventually get him out but his innings of 44 had clinched the match. We bowled and fielded well with Mitesh making an encouraging debut and Will bowled a good spell at the end to suggest he will be contributing more with the ball. Lord Whear also bowled a couple of overs at the end which can best be described as economical but arthritic!
Man of the match has to be the skipper for his opening burst that gave us some hope. Schlong de la jour is a tricky one with no Aneeq this week. Let’s have a rollover!
