Match report With at least two regular bowlers out, a belter of a pitch and short boundaries all round, this was a good toss to win and the third-choice skipper astonishingly won it. Edmonton’s opening pair, however, was still together at the drinks break and enjoying itself: at 30 overs the score was 170-1 and a big total looked on the cards, but Duncan Slaughter (2-42 in 13) and Asif Qamar (3-26 in 7) did a great job of pegging them back and the declaration came at 257-6 in 51. Fielding and catching were an improvement on recent weeks – catches went down, but at least they weren’t sitters, and Cameron Lovell and Shaun Qamar both took good ones, with Marcus Maben bagging a couple as well.

Edmonton’s young opening bowlers did well and after ten overs we were 43-1 with Nick Herne caught behind off a good off-cutter, leaving us 34 overs to get a further 215 at well over six an over. At which point the change bowlers came on and Cameron and Justin Peters put their foot down: when Justin was (unnecessarily) run out for 76 in the 23rd over the score was 187-2, the highlight of Justin’s innings being a hook off his nose and over the fence onto the A10. Asif joined Cameron and the carnage continued, Asif finishing the match with 46no compiled exclusively in boundaries and Cameron with a glorious 125no. The last 220 had come at better than 11 an over and the game was over with nearly 15 overs to spare.
