Indian Gymkhana 3 v Actonians Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 14 May 2016 at 12.30pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won By 8 wickets

Match report When Ian Botham once said "it's the sort of place you send your mother in law to", I'm pretty sure he must have been referring to Boston Manor Playing Fields! With the M4 running through the middle of the ground and changing rooms the Luftwafe somehow missed, this is not a ground that our Antipodean colleagues will write home about.

After last week's disappointment the 3s welcomed back their skipper, Mehaffey, who called correctly and inserted the opposition. With everyone there in good time we had a proper warm up and the bowlers were raring to go. Keir and Rashpal shared the new ball and soon reduced IG to 8 for 3. Both bowled a full length and got just enough swing to cause all sorts of problems. Their number 5 then hoicked to good effect as IG threatened a recovery. However the skipper brought himself on and picked up 3 quick wickets to nip that in the bud. Shaun came on at the other end and was typically miserly and he too picked up 3 wickets himself. Asad picked up 1 and it was all over just over 30 overs. Of the 10 dissmissals 7 were bowled, 2 were LBW with one caught behind. This reflects how straight all the bowlers bowled and collectively it one was one of the best bowling performances I can recall in the 3s. There were also backed up by some excellent fielding.

The curry had yet to arrive so we had send our openers out straight away. The first 2 balls were somewhat short and Maben Senior smoked both to the legside boundary. However we did found ourselves 18 for 2 at tea when debutant Richard Parker got bowled by one that did not get up as much as he thought, and Matt was adjudged LBW. Josh joined Andrew and these two ensured there would be no further alarms. The victory came in the 22nd over with Andrew just short of what would have been a deserved half century. Josh was keen to things wrapped up as he had set aside a second helping of curry!

So in the end a comprehensive victory for the 3s who are up and running. A near faultless display that sets the benchmark for us to match for the season ahead.
