Ealing Trailfinders III v Actonians Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 06 Aug 2022 at 12.30pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won by 208 runs

Match report After last weeks loss the 4s had a must win game this week at North Acton Playing Fields against Ealing Trailfinders. The oppo had a great start to the season but have dropped like a stone in recent weeks. Still the skipper was still keen to bowl first. Thankfully he lost the toss and we were inserted!

A deep thinking opening pair of Badger and Chris Hurst were entrusted in getting us off to a decent start and this was duly achieved. With a good helping hand from Extras they put on an opening stand of 52. They both had to ride their luck at times on a pitch that saw deliveries bouncing over heads from a good length and Chris was bowled off a no ball. To rub salt into the wound he thumped a sumptuous six over mid wicket later that over. They were eventually separated when Badger was run out by a direct hit from the outfield. This brought in a sprightly 40 year old in the form of H who saw off one of their opening bowlers by whacking back a tough caught and bowled chance that caused enough damage to end his match. 3 quick wickets saw us slip to 92-4 but this brought together Rocket Ronit and Suuuuj who took the attack to the Trailfinders bowlers. Ronit was dropped on 0 and this proved somewhat costly as they blitzed their way to a partnership of 86 in under 10 overs. Not only did they find the boundary regularly but they also ran very positively as the oppo began to wilt in the heat. Although Ronit fell for 34 Suuuuj completed his 2nd fifty of the season. Andrew G then took over the enforcing role ably supported by Raj and debutant Luke Ainslie as we declared on 270 for 8 from 41 overs. At the time we thought this was well above par on an unpredictable wicket and the oppo were down to 9 batsmen as both opening bowlers damaged hands dropping catches.

Andrew G and Slowheet shared the new ball and it soon became clear that this was a battle for survival for Trailfinders. Wickets fell at regular intervals and bringing on Luke for Andrew did not make life any easier. Slowheet managed to snaffle 3 and Luke picked up a couple. They had a thirteen year old batting at 6 who battled bravely for 3 not out off 35 balls as we struggled to find bowlers on this pitch that were safe for him to face. Ronit and Raj finished the job as we bowled them out for 62. Tough day for the Trailfinders.

Man of the match has to be Suuuuj for managing a half century on a testing pitch. Not for the first time this season man of the match also picks up Schlong de la Jour as Suuuuj managed to forget his whites. We struggled to find spares in our bags that would fit but thankfully he was able to summon someone to bring them down. The other contender, who just misses out, is Andrew Gnanapiragasam. Sporting a new Arsenal change shirt he was keen to personalise his recent purchase. Presumably they must charge by the letter because he went for a thrifty looking AG!!!
